The Colonial Steamboat Company is a small business which designs and makes models for wargaming and wargamers. We manufacturing ranges of cast model buildings, terrain and model boats and ships. In addition, we also offer a range of handmade models made to standard designs and also Custom model making service.

The Colonial Steamboat Company is the trading name of Andrew D. Birch. This trading name was first used by Andrew Birch in 2002 to sell a small number of handmade models on bring and buy stands at wargames events. In 2005 it was adopted as our official trading name when Andrew Birch launched a business producing resin and handmade models. However due to several problems and serious health issues this business effectively failed. However the handmade part of the business was kept going, principally selling a range of 35 handmade Arab/Middle Eastern style models through eBay.

In 2008, Andrew finally felt that he was fit enough to restart the business in full, and in October 2008, we began to sell the first resin models. We now plan to rapidly expand product base and look forward to attending many of 2010 events. In 2011 we hope to have a trade stand at SALUTE.

Andrew would like to thank those people who have offered their support over the last few years, and he would also like to apologies to anybody who as been let down or inconvenienced has result of his illness.

Andrew Birch trading as The Colonial Steamboat Company uses the registered eBay ID andrew351968 to sell Colonial Steamboat Company products. We only sell under this ID, and any other EBay user claiming to be "The Colonial Steamboat Company" is using the name without permission, and is commiting FRAUD and a copyright breach.

Intellectual Property Rights - Copyright and Design Rights

All the designs made under the trading name The Colonial Steamboat Company are copyright protected under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, and are original to Andrew D. Birch, unless other wise indicated. Third party Copyright and Design rights may exist in part or whole on products sold by Andrew Birch trading as The Colonial Steamboat Company. Under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 there is a automatic design right for unregistered designs that are unique to the designer. This relates to the design, and not style or period. For example a design for model of an arab buildingn not based on real existing building, it is the design and configuration of the models, and not the the architectural style of the building, that is protected. In the case of design based on a historical or real object, for example a field gun, the right relates to the actual model, and not the design, because it is considered to be in "Common Usage". The model inself cannot be reproduced, i.e. by mould making without express permission. For example, while a Sherman tank is in "Common Usage" and anybody can make a model of it and they cannot stop anybody else making one, but you cannot take model or casting based on the model, make your own mould and then reproduce that model as your own, even if you change it slightly..

I do not wish to stop people making similiar products, merely prevent people from making the same exact designs has me, particually if it's to a lower standard, or they are not supporting the same costs as I am, or registered as business with HMRC.
